O-Lanterns

Around town there are a number of Barack-O-Lanterns, but I have not seen any McCain-O-Lanterns. The pumpkin patterns are easy to find, so why only Obama's on display? Maybe it is one of those left-brain right-brain things, and to actually complete a pumpkin carving requires a whole brain -- not just a half. Yes we carve!

Shaking the Tree

Procrastination, excuses, diversions, ... For a month or so you say, "need to put down a tarp and shake the plumb tree because otherwise it's going to be a never ending process or just a mess." But you don't; and one or two at a time becomes three or four, becomes five or six ,... Eventually there comes a time when you get sick and tired of picking up a dozen plums every hour or so, and you just need to bite the bullet and shake the tree. It's only a tiny tree but it has been in that spot for forty or more years. Trimmed and thinned, used and abused, watered or not, but holding its own. Some years only one or two plumbs, other years, like this one, so many that some branches break under the weight of them. So the other day we finally shook it.
